It appears that terrorists still hold hostages at two hotels and a hospital this morning.  Army troops are moving in at this time.  The fate of the hostages is still in the balance.

But as the sun rises, now starts the aftermath.

For those that are surprised by this attack, I have only one thing to ask:  Really?  I for one am not.

Frankly, for the past 7 years, I have wondered why Al Qaeda didn’t attempt an attack like this on U.S. soil  You think India has bad hotel security?  When is the last time you went through a metal detector in the Ritz-Carlton in New York, or the Hilton in Maui?  I think not.  And hospitals?  I as a doctor have walked into high security areas in hospitals withou an ID badge, without a second look.

No, this should not be a surprise to anyone, other than it took this long.

There is no way to secure ourselves from these kind of attacks defensively; to do so would mean the end of the free lifestyle we have chosen.  The only solution is to be proactive.  This is a war; some liberals do not like the term, but there it is.  It is a reality.  It has been long before 9/11, and is so today.

Here is the scary part; unlike the 9/11 attacks, which took a lot of planning and money and time, this attack could have been easily put together.  From Bruce Hoffman, a professor at the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University and the author of the book “Inside Terrorism.”:

It’s not often that things in terrorism alarm me. So much is a repeat of what we see almost every day, like suicide bombings. There’s no real innovation in terrorism, which is why 9/11 was so terrifying, because it was so innovative and heinously clever.

But these attacks show how a handful of men, basically using weapons off the shelf, can paralyze a city and frustrate highly trained security forces. These attacks were calculated to spread alarm and anxiety — to put it quite frankly, to unhinge things — and that’s exactly what they’ve done.

I really think Mr. Obama understands this; I think he understands it much better than some of the fools that make up the base of his party.  He won’t let down against the terrorist.  But we as a people, along with free peoples of the world, better understand that; or there will be more 3/11 of Madrid, 7/11 of London, 9/26 of Mumbai, and of course, 9/11.

Great Site! I found it on AlphaInventions, which is a great resource – I have been there less than one week, have received hundreds of hits, and I have found a dozen new blogs to add to my reading list – like yours! Keep up the great work!
