Couple interesting news items:

  • Saxby Chambliss easily held onto the Senate seat from Georgia, winning 57-43.  This officially ends the Democrats quest for a filibuster proof senate.
  • Minnesota Senate recount continues…about 200 ballots not counted previously were miraculously found.  In any case, Coleman leads by just over 200 votes with 93% of the votes counted.  Of course, fate giveth and fate taketh away…later in the day, Franken lost 44 votes from Minneapolis.
  • Mel Martinez of Florida says he will retire in 2010.  Not surprising.  The interesting not is former Gov. Jeb Bush is considering a run for that seat, and would likely easily win, as he is extremely popular there.
