Obama and Warren at Saddleback

The Gay Community was outraged Thursday morning when they learned that prominent evangelical minister Rick Warren will give the invocation at the inauguration.

Warren, who invited Obama to speak several times at his Saddleback Church, opposes abortion rights but has taken more liberal stances on the government role in fighting poverty, and backed away from other evangelicals’ staunch support for economic conservatism. But it’s his support for the California constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage that drew the most heated criticism from Democrats Wednesday.

Of course, this fits with Mr. Obama’s state belief on gay rights as well.  He is AGAINST gay marriage, and continues to say so, though he was also against the California proposition.  Obama, to his credit, is for many more gay rights than the right.  This move goes further to show that his statements were more than just platitudes; possibly, he really IS against gay marriage.

The reality is that Mr. Obama has so much political capital right now, no single group, especially the Gay movement, has any clout against him.  He sees this as a bridge to the evangelical right; and it will work.  The religious right respects those that respect them.  So this will actually help Obama politically.  And frankly, the gay movement has no where else to go.

Don’t believe there is a lot of anger, watch this:
