A report out today suggests the Obama team is considering removing the long lasting ban between military and civilian space missions.  This is in response to the growing threat from the Chinese space community.

This threat solidified in 2007, when China destroyed a geosynchronous satellite with a missile.  This was considered technology beyond Chinese abilities.

The entire discussion shows the openness of Obama to new ideas.  It has been a long held belief by Democrats that space should be a shared environment, without any military implications.  This was one of the reasons Democrats have been steadfast against SDI (Strategic Defense Initiative, or ‘Star Wars’).  This also gives more hope to us that support these programs that Obama will continue large scale installation of SDI.
