I am not kidding.  Harry Reid, the Senate Majority leader, had the audacity to state that the senate and senate alone has the authority to decide if someone is worthy of being put in the Senate.

Um, what?

First of all, as I have made note in previous postings, this is far from clear.  Reid’s statement that is is a power held by the Senate for ‘generations’ is ludicrous.  Using his words, even if voters had decided, the Senate could still block a Senator.

This is just another example of Reid acting like an absolute buffoon.  This case will in all likelihood be decided not by the Senate, but the Supreme Court, assuming that Roland Burris, Gov. Blagojevich’s nominee, wants to continue to fight.  And in a article in the Chicago Tribune today, seen here, it appears Burris is ready for the fight.

One interesting side note.  Harry Reid was recorded on FBI tapes of Gov. Blagojevich.  In those tapes, Reid was openly campaigning against Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr, and Danny Kay Davis (both, incidentaly, are African Americans ), in favor of Lisa Madigan (the state attorney general and daughter of Michael Madigan, the powerful speaker of the Illinois House), and Tammy Duckworth, a former candidate for Congress and a wounded veteran of the Iraq war.  Apparently, Reid felt the latter two had better odds in a statewide election in 2010.

Wonder if Reid offered Blago anything…
