Senator Contenders Dropping Like Flies… January 8, 2009

Well, in 24 hours two big name possible Senate contenders quickly removed their names from contention.

The first yesterday was former Florida Governor Jeb Bush.  He stated that it was not the right time for him to return to public office.  This leaves the Florida Senate race in 2010 wide open, with no big name candidate vying for the job at this point.

The second was Hardball host Chris Matthews, who for months has been rumored about running against Arlen Specter in Pennsylvania.    This is actually a little more of a surprise, because he and Democrats were pushing the candidacy.  Without a big name, it will again be difficult to unseat the very moderate Specter.
