More Democrat Corruption… January 10, 2009

I guess I have to give James Carville credit.  One of his predictions was that corruptions charges come in waves…and the Democrats are proving him right.

The Democratic Mayor of Baltimore, Sheila Dixon, is charged with using gift cards intended for the poor for Christmas on gifts for herself and her family.  Dixon was indicted Friday on 12 counts, including perjury and theft, mostly for activity that occurred while she was City Council president. And most of the charges against her suggest an affinity for both high-end and big-box retail.

But Democrats are lining up behind her to support her mayorality.  City Council President Stephanie Rawlings-Blake and City Councilwoman Rochelle “Rikki” Spector were quick to defend Dixon and praise her performance as mayor. Some residents, too, weren’t convinced she did anything wrong.   Brilliant.

So, let’s see.  There has been Eliot Spitzer, Bill Richardson, Charlie Rangel.  And of course there are the ever lasting rumors of Clinton linked bribes, which may or may not be true.  As for mayors, Kwame Kilpatrick of Detroit, who was an early supporter of Barack Obama, takes the cake, with perjury charges, and rumors of links to murders; he is now sitting in jail. And of course, the king, Rod Blagojevich.  Wow.  When Obama said that he would bring a new face of ethics to politics, I didn’t think this is what he meant; did he mean to bring Chicagoland politics to the nation as a whole?

Now, in all fairness, the Republican’s streak of corruption over the past few years has been absolutely miserable.  So, they have no right to take the moral high ground.  But the turnaround is impressive none the less.
