Above is an Op-Ed from the Washington Post today, categorizing all of the ways that Nancy Pelosi and Congressional Democrats went back on their word to respect the Republican minority, that they claimed would be treated differently post-2006 than they were treated pre-2006.  The liberal Brookings Institution released a report on this specific issue.  A key passage:

“Democratic leaders in 2007 quickly concluded that implacable opposition to their agenda by President Bush and the Republican congressional leadership, combined with the 60-vote hurdle in the Senate, made it virtually impossible to return to regular order in committee, on the floor or in conference and still advance their agenda. . . . Their pledge to curb the procedural abuses of the previous Republican majority would for the most part have to be set aside. The choice was not surprising. Still, it had the effect of exacerbating partisan tensions in Congress and further fouling the toxic atmosphere permeating Washington.”

Shocking.

Well, between this, their refusal to pash ethics and earmark reform, their dumping of ‘Pay/Go’ (pay-as-you-go), is there one promise they really kept from 2006?

Hopefully Barack Obama does better.
